Matt, have you ever thought of going to a Christian who is a Dr.? The reason I ask that is because many people after years in the family and with losses, of which you have had more than a lion's share, have more needs than others to get on their feet. Depression is easily treatable, and therapy can be a big asset with an understanding therapist, preferably one experienced with domestic violence issues. There is NO shame or lack of faith to get help with depression. So often when you post you mention wanting to "kick the gong" or feeling like dying. That would be a normal feeling for someone who has experienced what you have. There are some new anti-depressants out there that you won't even notice as far as side effects (for most people anyway) that are such a big help without feeling like you are drugged. One of those is Lexapro. You might want to ask a Dr. about it.
I struggled with Post Family depression for years before I finally got it treated and then I wondered WHY did I wait so long? The family was so strong in teaching that treating illnesses was of the devil, however Berg himself treated his infections from his lifestyle using Drs, antibiotics, hospitalization etc.
Just something to think about. It made a huge difference in my life. That, and having someone familiar with domestic violence to talk to that is a professional. Hope the best for you. Don't become an after-the-family statistic! You deserve a LIFE AFTER THE FAMILY.
