I think the fairest tax is sales tax, because everyone has to pay it. It doesn't matter if you are a drug dealer, a poor person, or a CEO. Income tax just has too many loopholes. The more money you make, the easier it is to shelter.
I don't know how it is in other states, but here in California, certain things like food are exempt. But, if you buy a $50,000 car, you can look forward to paying over $4,000 in sales tax.
