I think that site goes a bit farther in trying to make it fit than I ever would. Calling Bush "charismatic" made me shoot coffee out my nose.

I'm a registered Republican, and have voted for every Republican candidate since Ronald Reagan, including old and new Bush.

I doubt that I will be able to bring myself to vote for new Bush this November. I don't think I can vote Democrat, so I'll probably leave that box blank this time around.

My reason for considering this is that I think that the new Bush administration has gone very far from the basic ideals of the Republican party. They are supposed to stand for less government, smaller government, and more local control. Under a Republican President, we are supposed to see a swing toward more personal freedom.

Bush had the terrible job of responding to 9-11, which I'm sure would have happend no matter who was President. I'm just dissapointed that he went so far in the opposite direction from the normal Republican platform.

While I would not call Bush and his supporters a "cult". I do see that there are cult-like influences at work. My Mother and I have always agreed about politics. But, my new independent thinking about this Republican President has her all upset. To her, Replubican = good, so Bush = good no matter what he does. When I told her that I thought that Bush had screwed up so bad that he couldn't possible win the next election, I might has well have been telling her that there wasn't any Santa. She reacted like I told her I was gay.

It is all very interesting. I want to see, in the upcoming election, how many long time Republicans, like me, switch sides, or just leave the box blank in protest.
