I guess Barney is the best example of what we are talking about. He is an ex-member, because the Family says he is an ex-member. But, he never really fit in to the online ex-member community, because he continued to live in a home. When the home was communial, people didn't like it. When he started charging rent, people didn't like that either. He just didn't fit in to either world, and he still doesn't. He wasn't the first, he won't be the last, but he was probably the most public about it to date.
It's funny how you mention that ex-members "know the smell". When Jane and I visited Barney's home in Laurel, one of her comments was that it smelled like a family home. She hadn't been in one for 20 years, but just the smell of the bleach and the provisioned food brought it all back instantly. I know that wasn't exactly what you were talking about, but that's what it brought to mind.
Regarding the use of the word "Tribunal". I think it is accurate, because what we are talking about here is judging and evaluating people in a public forum.
