How old are you talking about? I joined in 68 before Amos.
Berg started being unapproachable when we got to TSC from the road. He lived in his RV off in the woods. I think some of the man worship began there. I was shipped to LA, I don't get it because the radicals that were in the group were somehow pacified or maybe just afraid of this beast that we allowed to enter into our camp.
I think the big problem was when or if (Madame M?) he approached Madame M. I, however, personally believe, that Madame M was Maria and she did the tarot cards and the crystal ball crap that somehow let an evil spirit in call "abrahim". The pandora's box of hell opened up to the group.
Why do you think that he told us basically to throw away our Bibles? Because the truth would have exposed him. Oh, well, it's been so long ago... you try to think what kind of state of mind you were in.
I know for a fact he used fear quite a bit even in 68 to control some of us. We may have allowed him to get control of us through that way.
But, to say he was mentally ill, that is a compromise. He knew what he was doing he saw all these young sweethearts so he had to change the rules so he could jump on their bones. Seriously, there was nothing physical about this his appearance. But, some women are so taken back by power. It's a sad story, I'm just glad that I left in 77 and even considered all the time in the COG a waste of time except for some of the souls that were reached. I can't say that God wasn't faithful to show me the red flags and give me warnings over and over again. I was told they were doubts from the devil, just like probably you were.
I just feel sorry for the children that were brought up there. Some of their parents knew better yet they remained in there. Maybe, they were intimidated or just too weak to believe that God could provide and deliver them from the hell we all were in. I don't know, I can't answer for them. I don't know what was in there minds.
I just know in Peru, when I saw Jethro living high on the hog and the rest of us were living like peons and slaves. That was it for me. Then asking our women to be whores for Jesus, wow, what man that loved his wife would do that?
I knew Berg and I've seen mentally ill people and he was not one of them. So, don't justify him and let him off the hook, he was a criminal and he chose to do evil.
He son Aaron, was off mentally and extremely abusive. I tried to avoid him as much as possible. He was the reason we left orange county in the first place, because he got a lot of us arrested when the police told us to leave where we were demonstrating. He apparantly was waiting for a voice from God to tell him to obey the police.
I still laugh to myself when I used to hear MO say that we were persecuted from Orange County. First off, what business did we have going into churches and blasting them? We didn't know who they were, DB just had a grudge against them.
But, the truth of the matter is that they convicted Aaron Berg of 602.9 penal code and if we stayed in Orange County he would have had to spend time in jail. I remember DB saying that Aaron (because of his mental condition) would die in jail so , thats the real truth why we left california the first time. So, it wasn't something glamourous like they persecuted us. Lot of DB's stuff was based on lies, from the beginning til now. It's just a ruge of the devil, a mimic, a trap, to trap the innocent.
It was bitter pill.
