Good point that we helped create him & that we shouldn't have been so naive. We should've seen the evil and the delusion and had the balls to stand up to him. But we'd have needed to stand up to him whether he knew exactly what he was doing and was sane (not likely), or whether he was delusional and psychotically self-centered, which I believe was the case.
Berg shows all the earmarks of having been delusional and lacking in empathy or emotional IQ. To be as selfish and self-absorbed as Berg was went far beyond being normal. He was seriously mentally ill,though you're right he was still sane enough to know what he was doing and should've stood trial for his evil.
