This is a pretty good analysis, imo. Still, you didn't make the grade...and I would argue that you "failed" to cut muster at Berg's HQ because of how you are put together psychologically and how your character affected your choices. For whatever reason, you simply could not totally abandon your sense of identity and world view. That was a choice based on values, beliefs, attitudes, etc., that are deeply engrained in your character.
Some people in the prison camps of WWII broke and some did not. All went through similar mind-warping experiences. All made choices based on what they thought they needed to do in order to survive.
