Cartoons and other graphics are an excellent communication tool, and they can get past mental blocks that would catch the written word.
I once took a course in memorization techniques, and the jist of it was, that the mind attaches pictures to abstract data, in order to remember the data. It's kind of like a graphical indexing system.
In the class, there were 40 students, and one of our first exercises was to try and remember the first and last name of everyone in the class. None of us could do it by our own untrained attempts, but an hour later, after being taught the simple graphic image association, all of us were able to correctly remember everybody's full name!
That class was nearly 30 years ago, and I can still remember all 40 names!
