I am sure Berg lived luxuriously most of the time, especially once the family started bringing in more money. But Berg is dead now. And Zerby doesn't have far to go. I would be willing to bet that there will not be another generation to carry on with the weird crap. (Like the LJR).
What I see about the family's effect on all generations is that we all participated in things that looking back we would feel disgusted about. I wonder if that isn't part of the purpose of some of the extreme weirdness?
Right now there are some SGs returning to the family. It seems 911 triggered some of that. Or negative life experiences outside of the family and voila! Zerby rolls out the red carpet. Berg did that too when certain FGs were re-enlisted by Faithy and others in one of those "we love you, the family has changed" type moves. And of course, history shows what happened with that. I don't see those SGs that returned as being bad. I see them as reactive, understandably so after a lifetime of conditioning. In fact, it doesn't take a lifetime of conditioning to have those kinds of reactions. I hope they make it back out.
It is not unusual for people leaving a cult to experience something like "depersonalization" after being out for awhile. That and extreme anxiety and depression related problems. It is not a inherent weakness. It is something I would expect most have to deal with that experienced any measure of severe trauma.
Kinda like if you go out in the snow and are overexposed, you will likely have frostbite which can have life-altering effects.
Life-altering is not about weakness. It is about surviving the storm.
