Maybe the U.S. Military has gone soft these days but it used to be that with new recruits there was physical overload & psychological degradation for the purpose of breaking people down mentally so that they would obey orders immediately & implicitly. That same thing happened in the Family.
Now the army is not a cult tho the Marines might be. Just kidding. The army is not a cult because there is not the hidden agenda. You know ahead of time what you're getting into & you know about the absolute obedience to officers & how serious it is to go AWOL.
