Susie, I am so very sorry for all you and your innocent children have had to go through. I hate the horrific reality of the vulnerability of childhood and that abuse occurs to some children in every culture, whether in the Family or not.
To me the difference is that you fought tooth and nail for your children. You were absolutely horrified by what had occurred and did whatever you could to bring the person responsible to justice. I personally believe that the reason your children have been able to heal from this is because they knew there was someone who loved them and said “I will fight to protect you from harm. I hate with a passion the evil you have been through and will fight with my last breath to protect you”.
Most of us never had that experience. A poll on MovingOn said that over 60% of respondents had parents that discounted the abuse they experienced, or participated in the abuse themselves. Only 10% of the parents actually went to bat for their children.

I wish it were not the case, but no one can protect children from all harm. To fight for them when they are hurt, and to feel and show the outrage that such vileness demands is something we can do. It's good to know that there are parents who will do that.
