With regards to the jail part, I very much doubt that it would be realistic given statutes of limitations and depending upon the country in which the incident happened. If however, there are applicable statutes that could be enforced and the adult involved in the sexual interaction be subjected to a penalty of some sort, then I would be in favor of that. Regardless of whatever duress the adult was under, the fact remains that as a result of his actions and those of others like him, the victim may very well be dealing with the very real and long lasting effects to this day. Whatever character deficiencies, or traumatic circumstances were responsible for someone joining the Family and signing on to this religious totalitarianism, should never, in my mind, serve, as a shield to blunt what is I believe, valid and reasonable criticism of those who committed crimes of a sexual nature on children and underage teenagers. I have had the opportunity to know many people who were raised in sexually abusive or coercive environments who did not and do not become the monsters they once so much hated.
In all the give and take and contortions over the question of who bears responsibility, I have yet to hear a plausible argument to excuse or exculpate those who by either action or inaction were responsible for a part in the wholesale sexual abuse of Family children and teenagers.
First it was the “evil godless system and churchy parents” who were to blame for the world’s and a disciple’s ills. Now it is the “evil cult leaders” who forced and coerced grown adults into having sex with children. And for those adults still in TF, it’s their “evil and apostate enemy young people” who are creating lies and trying to stop god’s work.
