I'd say, you guys are doing fine the way things are. Working the 9 to 5 and being away from the kids is hard to do. I like Fran's idea much better, she should keep that up. If she has that skill and the resources, that's a much better idea, even if it isn't as financially lucrative. It's always a toss up - should I stress myself out and make more money to meet the expenses or chose something that's less stressful and we're all happier but the pocket isn't full. As for your dilemma Charlie - I don't know - I think with the talent you have you should do whatever it takes to do your painting. That's rewarding for you and a real gift. Of course, there is always the family to consider with all the expenses, time away and all.
I know a young couple that goes to my family's church. The husband had a well known Christian rock band that was becoming very popular. He signed a contract and they were on the road making money. But he had just gotten married and had a new baby. He didn't like being away from his wife and his family so he quit the band and is now a school teacher. He appears to be much happier. It's not always about money, though it sure helps to put the food on the table.
