I don't think Maria was abused by her parents. Ed Priebe told me once when he was living with Berg & Zerby in the Philipines that he was walking across the property & met Zerby out for a walk. She had just received a letter from her parents with a picture of her parents in it & she showed the photo to Ed quite pleased & almost proud of them. Her attitude towards them seemed to be normal from what he could see.
I guess the only problem is that they can't say they're proud about her.
