definitely pathological, but it's harder to pinpoint than with Berg. Did you read Dr. Stephen Kent about Lustful Prophet? It sort of cleared up a lot for me in why and how Berg got on the tangent he did. Not that it gave him any excuse, but it helps to understand the whys and the wherefores. Maria is harder to figure out because I don't think she was abused. However, the stifling life of a fundamental Christian can also have reverse affects. Also, that partriarchal figure of the all powerful and angry God, that's a whole other subject.
