The ex member Fam boards did tons for me when I left the Fam 2 1/2 yrs ago. And I had the same question too about LOL. In fact in one of my first posts I brought up the "Law of Love" GN series that Maria published in '98, the ones every home was supposed stop everything for 3 days just to read. Anyway I abbrieviated putting LOL in my post thinking for sure it meant Law of Love, that really got some people confused. Anyway like I tell my language students, every question is a good question.
There are a lot more abrieviations (acronyms) than just LOL or ROTFWL. It can be helpful to go to a web site with an acronym dictionary. The one I use is: http://www.gaarde.org/acronyms/
