I also am an SGA ex-member...I used to think the same way as you about "grandpa". That bad things happened in the Family because people took his letters out of context. I don't think that way anymore. I read a letter which was sent to Zerby. It was written by James Penn-who by the way lived in or near "grandpa's" for many years. Penn described what happened to Mene and other young women at the hands of our ever so loving "grandpa"-not what the Family said, but what really happened! It sickened and discusted me! I've been retyping a letter by "grandpa" (The Devil Hates Sex) and...wow...re-reading it after having been out since 1997, is a real eye opener! Not only did "grandpa" ramble on and on, but he blatently lied! He lied about a legal case that had happened in CA around the time that this certain letter was published-not telling little white lies either-he took the whole situation out of context and LIED about it (I've looked up the case online)!
Like I said, I was also raised in this group. I, like you was brought up calling this man "grandpa"; loving and respecting him etc. and I'm nauseous because of it! He was a sick, sad individual who used his power over his followers minds to create his own heaven. I'm sorry, but after hearing about what's happened to many young people (even his own "son" who had his entire life printed-which by the way included many chapters that the world would call sexual child abuse), and what happened to my step brothers mother (IRF'ers Beware-by the way lied in that letter as well-pretty much the whole damn thing), that man is NOT my "grandpa" he never was my "grandpa" (lucky for me) and I have NO terms of endearment for him. The only consolation I have is that he (Berg) will pay for what he's done! He may be in Heaven-but that doesn't mean he won't get his! Remember the day of reckoning-the great White Throne Judegment!
