"If thy brother TRESPASS against thee, REBUKE him; and IF (see that 'IF'?) he REPENT, FORGIVE him" LUKE 17:3
AND don't forget all those martyred saints "under the altar" who cry out for vengeance against those who did them wrong! Rev 6:9,10
But I do think there is something to the idea of trusting God to take vengeance and not doing it yourself. "Vengeance is mine I will repay, saith the Lord" --that concept does require faith. I have to admit, that my faith is not always up to that level.
I may be wrong, but I think where people get confused, about this forgiving business, is because of the verse: "for if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." But THINK about it! You have to ASK God to forgive your trespasses! You have to REPENT before God! Did the person who trespassed against you, ASK for forgiveness? Did they REPENT towards you for what they did to you?Jesus said, "IF they REPENT, forgive them" I think that's the KEY. Those who trespass against you are suppose to ask you for forgivenss just as we ask God. THEN, if you don't forgive them, God says He won't forgive you.
And NOT only do the offenders need to ASK for forgiveness but they ALSO need to "bring forth fruits worthy of repentance". Has the Family ever done this? No.
