I disagree too that Ben was unstable mentally. I think he is just one of the very first examples of an extremely smart young person who just DID NOT fit into the norm of the Family, but at that time (80's) had no other choices available as hardly any young person had ever left the group to live their own life and pressure to stay in the group was so very very strong that those who were considering leaving were in the 'backsliders going to be judged by God' list.
One point about his suicide, there is a very very strong chance that he may have been pushed off the building by the mafia in HK. My sister met someone who knew Ben (not TF related) and they told her that he didn't commit suicide, but was pushed by the mafia. But I can't verify this as total truth, it's 3rd generation information.
