When we get photos, we consider them to be the property of the person who provides them. We assume that people who appeared in the photo gave permission for the photos to be used by the person who took the photos.
If we find out otherwise, we take whatever action is appropriate. For example, if you emailed me and said that a certain photo on NDN had you in it, and you really didn't want to have your photo online, I'd take it off immediately.
An important thing to realize, when dealing with online websites, is that we deal with the public, and give people an opportunity to publish on the web instantly. For example, those photos were uploaded directly by the guy who has them.
The same idea applies to the message that I'm answering. You had the freedom and ability via this website to publish your question worldwide in and instant. Nobody checked into who you are, or who I am. It just got out on the web. I guess that is both the best and the worst thing about online publishing.
If it ever did get to where websites had to check every fact, and get permission for every photo, then the whole thing would probably grind to a hault, and we could all go back to getting our info about the Family from shows like Sixty Minutes ever four or five years or so.
I know that's way more of an answer than you were asking for. I'm kind of passionate about the whole online publishing thing, so I tend to get off on a rant.
