Why life outside the Family is GREAT!
Posted by WC on May 05, 2002 at 06:20:26:
I thought I'd start this off and have everyone else contribute:
- You get to ski down a mountain in the light of a full moon aloneif you want
- You can work for your future, save up, build your life the way you want it, and no one comes along every now and then ripping it all away telling you to forsake it all for "God"
- You get to explore things your shepherds told you you were not good at or not meant to pursue ("not God's will for you") and find out you not only are meant to do it, but you excel in it!
- You are allowed to dream dreams, and put your dreams into action
- You get to choose - I mean really choose, not have your choices narrowed down to one thing you must choose or else you're outta here
- You are genuinely helping others by being a better genuine you
- You can listen to the music you like
- You get to sleep when you want and get up when you want
- You get to watch the movies you want
- You don't have to live out of a suitcase all year round
- You get to learn more about yourself and develop a genuine understanding and relationship with yourself
- You get to wear anything you want
- You can use more than 2 sheets of toilet paper
- You read what you want
- You find out there are much better ways to deal with a child than corporal punishment and your children love you for it
- You get to say you were wrong about all the things the Family made you do against your conscience, and you get to move on and be who you really are or want to be
- You watch your own job skills develop and increase over the years, and you know your own value in the job market
- You don't have to explain yourself all the time and find some way to make people understand your strange beliefs
- You get to stop thinking about the Family for days, months, and years at a time
- You get to lie in the sun if you want
- You don't have to shove your neo-colonialistic and culturally insensitive activities on the already spiritually enlightened poor in developing countries, by "witnessing" to them.
- You stop having an agenda to talk at people and get to have genuine communication and an exchange of ideas with spiritually rich people
- You don't use sweet friendly people from developing countries as photo-op
- You visit an orphanage because you want to, not because it's part of your monthly/yearly photo-op
- You don't have to pretend you have all the answers to the world's problems
- You get on plan for your future without thinking that your children don't need you because Jesus is coming in 1993
- You get to surf to any sites you want
- Your children get to be the kids they really are, without having unfair responsibilities and burdens placed on them
- You get to have a contrary opinion and people respect you for it
- You get to pick bits and pieces of what you believe in and reconcile it with your own unique faith, and not have to swallow all or nothing crap
- You get to focus and dedicate yourself to specialized skills and being super good at them without someone saying, "your skills aren't glorifying God, they are glorifying you" and other crap like that
Oh yeah, and let's not forget:
- Sex goes on! (OK, I was a dating single for a while, thus some of the following views:)
- The relationships are FAR better and more fulfilling than the ones you get from the unnatural environment conducive to "easy catch" sex in The Family.
- You feel worthy of the sex you get, not because someone felt sorry for you and made a sacrifice to be with you
- It's actually possible someone likes you for who you really are, not because you're putting on some show about how Godly you are in order to get laid
- You don't have to interrupt your passion with an urge to lead your partner in prayer
- You can break up from a shitty relationship without someone saying it's God's will for you to stay together
- You only get together with people you want to get together with
