The Mennonite CLE is an excellent graded series of home study books and I was very happy to use it with my kids when I was in the Family.
The CVC is intended to be more of a high school course and is based almost 100% on the Family pubs (I still have the basic course book). It's only good point, in my view, was that it did encourage kids to take "outside" "system" courses in things they were interested in like photography, art, computer, woodworking, etc. when there was no one in their Home qualified or with the time to teach those skills.
I did not like the fact that the CVC was seen as "easier" and certainly much "cheaper" than the CLE for teens- because with the CLE, if properly taught and used (of course, most Homes unfortunately don't encourage teens to spend the necessary time and effort for this), teens could get an equivalent high school education. However, my two oldest completed the CLE and one (still in the Family) got her GED and one (not in the Family) is now in college and doing just fine.
