I think it's great to use Oprah as a reference. When I was in the States those were two of the shows I wanted to see. First was Dr. Phil's show, and second was Oprah's.

Here in Continental Europe they don't have much on TV that have people really being open and talking about really personal things, about how they need help, or about how they got the help they need or were able to help themselves. Shows like this don't yet seem to be possible because Europeans are way too reserved and private. That's one thing I appreciate about America & Americans. As a rule we are a lot more open and communicative about very personal things.

If I lived in the States, I don't think I'd watch those shows very often, but I think they have their place and credibility.

PS By the way, in Europe there's a European version of Jerry Springer, and often the participants are actors payed to play the part.
