I put in "Mr. Bush" when I should have put "Mr. Reagan," to your statement of "Worse, so strong was the hold of the pro-Iraq lobby on the Republican administration of President Ronald Reagan, it succeeded in getting the White House to frustrate the Senate's attempt to penalize Baghdad for violating the Geneva Protocol on Chemical Weapons, which it had signed."
Actually, the fact that it was Reagan and not Bush who refused to penalize Baghdad shows that this is OLD NEWS. It's ridiculous to use Reagan's mistakes to discount Mr. Bush's decisions. Should Reagan have gone along with the penalization? Probably. Would it have mattered? Probably not, as Iraq has shown that they do not respect the opinion or rights of other anyone. Do you seriously believe that it would have mattered if Reagan penelized Iraq back then? If he had, I'm sure the liberal would have been calling him a racist and an idiot.
