So what are you saying? The U.s. should be Santa Claus and just give things out indiscriminantly? Of course they are not selfless and it would behoove any country to want to watch their back. I see a lot of jealousy in the fact that the U.S. is more powerful and richer than most countries. I see this in everyday life too, it's just playing out on a world scale.
