Another point is, we all have intellectual 'blind spots.' It's not that we're really blind, it's just that when we take a stand on one side of an issue or another, it's sometimes very difficult to digest and accept contradictory evidence. There are 'logical' reasons on both sides of the argument & people are convinced of an opinion & once they are, contradictory evidence is often ignored, swept under the rug or argued away.
Because of huge amounts of opposing facts on both sides, I have a hard time taking definite sides & I don't think I can be faulted for 'inaction' as a result. What action should I take? What would truly be effective for me to do? This war is going to play out exactly as it will no matter what I do or say.
