People who live a life style very similar to the one they say they have abandoned would be consider by any reasonable person as suspect of not having abandoned it at all. They may talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. Most people would even think that there is a certain amount of hypocrisy, or at least that something is fishy.

If a “prominent” individual avoids answering specific questions addressing his or her relationship with certain ideologies and tries to present a public image of one who has abandoned them, it is reasonable to think that some people could find this person suspicious.

So being credible is a matter of who is talking. It is normal to be credible with one’s own neighbors. Most of us are considered liars by many of our past associates in The Family. By the same token, we consider many people in The Family liars – we know they are because we know about their double talk. Many of them present themselves as something they are not.

So when people come along and introduce themselves as ex COG members but they keep walking the same walk and talking the same talk of The Family, their credibility is shattered.
