Sometimes when you start a new job, you may be offered benefits as a new employee with no health checks, etc. - take them! Usually if you turn the benefits down at the beginning, it's much more difficult to get them once that new period has ended. I didn't take short term disability at one job, and then I was turned down when I decided to take it when the opportunity rolled around again. I am so thankful that I took everything I could when I began the job I have now. I was only there for 10 months and had bypass surgery. If I hadn't had the insurance, I would most likely not be here to type this post right now. Benefits are very important - it doesn't mean you don't have any faith if you have them. You still get to decide whether or not you want to use them. But it's wonderful to have dental, glasses, and prescriptions if you need them.
