Isn't it a blast?! I don't know what kind of course you're taking, or what age group or type of students/subjects you'll be teaching. But I think I do know what you're talking about. Despite teaching in F schools and the F's glorious ideas about how adequate we were with the "abundance" of F material and guidance at hand, I too found I had a lot to learn about "teaching" when I left,
The science of Pedagogics: how to let students process and figure things out, how to help them build on their established knowlege, interact, ask dumb questions, etc... how to recognize where individuals are at in their progress and how to help them, awareness of your own presentation and body language, the importance of correct feedback, the social factors, psychological factors, etc.
On the public speaking section of one particular course, I was filmed several times, and the instructors and fellow students dissected my every move and every nuance in speech. It was so embarassing, I kept thinking, "Gawd, is that me? Do I sound like that? Do I walk like that?" But the stuff I learned there I've been able to use in my everyday life - I've become more aware of how not to get mistaken about what I'm trying to get across, how to be more convincing and effective when trying to impart ideas, and how to work with group/crowd dynamics. Most of all, it's helped me explain things better, and to be more understandable.
OK, I guess everyone will now complain about how difficult I am to follow when I talk tech stuff :-p
