I agree the solution is in question. For some very complicated matters there are only VERY IMperfect solutions if any, and you may never really have a sterile, ethically 'clean' solution. You only have attempts and possibilities.

I think what you present is a false dilemma. Are we going to etc (with respect to vigilantes etc)

WAIT a minute. That is NOT the point, that it 'was correct.' When the people involved got involved they could not possibly have known what the law/police would have done.
It is important to remember that when you put a process in motion (legal, emotional, or otherwise) you may not be able to CONTROL its ramifications. F leadership did not keep THIS into account when they willfully and carelessly kept abusing others. When you look at the series of steps and "WHAT did the exmembers know and WHEN did they know it?" (to ask a famous question) then the Argentina case can be looked at in a more historic and 'human nature' perspective.
