You raise a serious question PD & I'm sure other ex-members are giving that serious thought. I think if some key oldtimers would step forward in the future like say if it came to a court case their added testimony would be a plus. But it'd only be a plus, not the case itself.
Like Daniel has repeatedly stated in his letters to Maria and Peter, this coming battle originates with the SGAs and not the FGAs. Their case is so powerful and heavy it has enough weight with just SGAs alone. So I think if M&P are thinking they can discredit some FGAs by throwing dirt at them and thus stop the case, it ain't gonna work. The heart of the case, if it happens, will be in the raw testimony of the SGAs themselves.
But yes, there are some older exmembers who have things they could say that would help. It takes time to count the personal cost, and some of them aren't concerned about dirt being thrown at them, it's just that they have children in the cult, and the unwritten understanding is very clear: "Speak out publicly against the Family and you will NEVER see your kids again. Ever." So they have a huge price to weigh, and I think a few oldtimers are in that position.
Your question is a good one and you and your husband wrestling with all the consequences shows a great willingness to sacrifice. Only time will tell how each person will choose. In the meantime, the SGAs move on to whatever action they intend to bring.
