These are tough, honest questions. My feeling is that each person has to decide for themselves -- no pressure. Someone who has three dependents has more to deal with than a single. There is no generic solution. I place a great importance on making sure that no further harm comes to dependents of ex-members. Children who left the group with their parents at a young age have a right to grow up a normal life without being dragged into their parent's cult-bashing. I'm speaking loosely here.
We screwed up our lives, but at least we can do the necessary and provide our dependents with as many opportunities as possible, and shield them from the cult baggage as much as possible.
So PD, if I were you, I would think long and hard before getting your name into anything public.
As well, I am not at all convinced that the SGAs want to work with anyone from our generation. Of course, the SGAs are not a monolithic entity, but I don't think that many would entertain any notion of a partnership. And I don't blame them. I feel that FGAs who want to advocate against the group can do so in a seperate, distinct way that is still generally supportive of SGA projects.
Very interesting posts and discussions
