I will take you up on that hot potato. :)
How many close intimate gay friends do YOU have?
I think once you know people closely and really hear their life experiences you start seeing that regardless of being a very small minority compared to the largely heterosexual population (it is always extremely hard to be a small minority anywhere) there is such a thing (in general) as a fairly definite and consistent sexual orientation.
Besides what and why should science 'prove' this?
It has not 'disproved' what I just said either.
Think about the fact that many men who resort to homosexual relations in jail (I realize this may give you goosebumps :) go back to being heterosexual once women are available to them. They were never homosexual in the first place, nor claimed to be.
Just being able to have sex with a certain person does not determine your sexual orientation. I can have sex with a woman but I am NOT gay. I am heterosexual. However, some people (including one of my dearest friend from high school) ONLY fall in love with people of the same sex, just like I only fall in love and have erotic feelings for men. That is different.
I do understand you, though. My boyfriend is extremely homophobic...he says it is a 'feeling' stronger than him. And he has a degree in biology. :)
