I don't have to file every year, nor do my children. There are guidelines if you are a single or a parent and according to where the income comes from.
Example: if you make even just a few hundred dollars off interest on money deposits or any kind of money you HAVE to file. There are special forms for that.
If you are a single you don't file if you make less than X amount from work. And so on. If you go on the IRS site I bet most of that is there. Anyway if it is somewhere less than around 9,000 dollars you don't have to file.
I take it you have never been THAT poor! :))))
