curious what you feel is "intelligent reasoned conversation." there is a lot going on here... not to sure "reason" is always in the recipe.
but if that is what you want of rf, perhaps it would have been good to contact him, explain your point of veiw, and in an intelligent reasonable way, see if he could begin to explore another perspective. maybe not, but at least it would have helped him understand your position, which might have helped him later.
i am curious eth, what helped you to see the light? someone come in and undo years of work on a project you put your heart into hoping to help kids learn some basic biblical principles, and then telling you to choose whether to serve God or the devil you have been serving? if so, that would be unique in the stories i've heard. it usually is a little bit more of a process i think.
my personal conviction is that each fam.mem. is an individual, and despite a general atmosphere of thought reform and spiritual manipulation, relating to them as individuals is still the best way to help them begin to question their positions. actions taken against the group as a whole are best approached at least weighing out the specific impact of specific actions...and will they really accomplish the goal desired.
i do believe that circumstances may be moving towards a greater gulf between the fam and those not in. i believe tough times are ahead for the fam...and there probably will be a crew of diehards who follow m&p to a place that is something out of a stephen king movie. but i also believe in "space to repent"...and haven't heard the revelation that it is over. my prayer is that as many as possible can be drawn to the truth.i just know what draws me.
