Sounds like my mom before she passed away, though she didn't smoke, however, my dad did so she probably suffered from 2nd hand smoke. The thing is, my siblings were on her case all the time about her eating habits, her exercising more, etc., etc. The fact was, her arteries were so clogged that she couldn't breathe. Finally, the doctor did an angioplasty and found that she needed by-pass surgery pronto. They did that but she still had problems, so they had to install a pacemaker. She was 75 at that time and it was really hard watching her suffer like that. But what really ticked me off was the cruelty my brother and sister displayed because of her poor eating and exercising habits that contributed to her poor health. She kept trying to tell them she couldn't breathe and they just kept saying it was because of her lack of exercise and so on. I felt so bad for her. It's good, Donny, that you have taken the time to understand your mom and what she is going through. I mean, there are tons of people that eat like that and never have anything happen to them, it has not been an unusual diet for many years and it is not her fault for eating that way. Plus, there are so many other factors. The fact that she has stopped cooking greasy foods shows that she is trying and I say good for her. She should be checked by a heart specialist. Many people who have by-pass surgery go on to live more productive lives. And since she is cooperating by quiting smoking and changing her eating habits, I'd say she has good prospects for working towards healthy and a more comfortable life. Good for her and good for you for being a supportive son.
