I have a good memory for some things. I remember that letter came out when I was in Germany and where I was, because I stayed above the letter limit as did most European members that drank. I remember the amount, I thought about two drinks? And I remember a comment from Berg about more than that would make him wonder what Spirit people were getting into! Well, I wonder how many he had when he was writing that one? This would have been around 1978? Definitely before the eighties. Personally, my theory is the same as it is about Doctors. He obviously went to Doctors, and so did Maria. I think he was concerned about the cost more than anything. The cost of Doctors and the cost of alcohol. He even got so tedious in one letter about tithing that he said that the 10 % tithe should include the estimated cost of anything we were given right down to a cracker. So for those that went on the road and often got meals from strangers or gifts of any kind, that meant 10% of the value of those items. Then the fear of what happens if you hold back.
Berg was banging Maria before I ever even joined (70) and by 72 I was aware that he, at least, and then later some top leadership, were given special privileges from God. By 1972 I remember having a conversation with someone who said Berg was banging his daughter. I didn't believe it. But I am aware there were letters that were for gen. public, disciples only, leadership trainee and above, leaders and top leaders. I was not privy to much of this as I separated from my "mate" in 74. So the hearsay was from people that leaders confided in and there was some trickle down. To question was disobedience, and we were taught to obey without question. And you don't question the mouthpiece of God. (Who was a pedophile way before the family started.)
