It's something that lingers from the family(though not exclusive to the family)
The whole idea of 'witnessing' ie according to the family standard is such a farce; but so inground that the guilt to live normally is beyond reach for some.
Don't feel to bad for Joshua, he probably feels he is being persecuted for righteousness sake and feels pretty good about himself right about now.
