I left the family, went back to school, got a PhD and am now teaching at a major university. I think I am not the only one and others are in the process of getting university degrees, including more PhDs. It is possible to do; hard work but possible.
I agree with you in that education is the way to go but the funding bit is something else. It is different and even more complex. We can agree in that both topics are important and related at some point but they are different and separate.
