"We're sorry for the hurt or bitterness you may have"
In other words "sorry for your problem"
No mention of the crime just "your problems"
The family never truly admits its sins
In a letter to people who had left the family in about 1993 Maria said
"We're sorry if any of you were hurt or confused"
No admission, no repentance
once again sorry for "your problem"
always Sorry "if" (conditional, not a fact )
never sorry "that" (regret)
and certainly never sorry "for what we did"
