I learned this when I read the book on cults - Cults in our Midst, by Singer. She talks about a cult self and your normal self. Ever wonder why in a cult you can only read THEIR literature, have friends ONLY from the cult, never watch a TV or movie that isn't approved by THEM? It's all about controlling your mind and that is exactly what happened, so slow though, that we didn't even realize it was happening.
