This is all from the pubs, since I remember most of what I read, and I read just about everything.
He had Hodgkin's disease (you can make a search and check that out) and was demonized because of it instead of being helped. At one point he wrote and asked for funds (imagine how much he made for Berg with his extremely popular ministry) for an experimental treatment with 'laetrile' (if I well recall this was the name of the substance, some sort of natural extract) -- Berg replied with a vitriolic answer about not believing in putting money down holes and these stupid treatments. He was given the whole 'healing by faith or else you are no good' spiel.
After he died there were things published about his wife and kids. The thing that really struck me is that instead of getting much needed grief counseling and therapeutic help, they had internalized the sense of doom and condemnation that affected Peter. His wife wrote a desperate "testimony" asking for 'deliverance' and 'forgiveness' because the bad 'spirits' that affected the husband affected them. (or so she was afraid. She must have been awfully depressed and out of her mind with what she had to go through). One of the most painful things I remember was reading about the children and the alleged 'bad spirits' they had. One daughter had a lisp and was demonized because of it, having to undergo some sort of exorcism - apparently the 'Lord' gave someone the names of all these spirits...I don't remember this 'lisp' spirit now (reading then was so disturbing I have removed some of this) but I have to say that there is very little I have seen that parallels the psychic and emotional anguish the F and Berg have been able to create in the lives of people that had done nothing wrong and were only victims of illnesses and in need of love, support and all the care they could get. I don't know what other word could describe this except torture. There have been quite a few cases and I would like to find a way to document them all.
