A very moving letter, Goth. You express how so many of us feel. Why would anyone want to stay in a manipulating, controlling group who rules its members through fear. I guess because they've been fed the lie that leaving the group is somehow backsliding on God and that God will be angry with them if they leave.
When the truth is that the group as a whole has completely backslidden from God, following "the doctrines of men" and sick women like Karen Zerby.
Did you notice in her newest letter how she described ordinary, caring ex-members as demons covered with blood and rats from the sewer, and then (a) told Family members not to read what these ex-members write and (b) that there are some of you Family members who will doubt and leave and be judged and punished with pain and persectuion and then the real winner...
(c) Well, shit, it ain't nice to curse those ex-members with death and horrible painful diseases, is it, but we sure as hell do want them dead, so why don't you'all pray that God "mercifully" takes them out of the way? Yup! Now isn't praying for God to mercifully remove ex-members a lot more loving than praying for God to slaughter them? Sick, sick, sick.
Well, it's all part of Zerby's sick mind and controlling religion. And Peter A. also got in on it real good, did you notice. So both of them have blood on their hands.
