I strongly agree with someone who said on "MovingOn" that this "we're all rotten sinners" doctrine was one big dirty sheet Berg used to throw up to cover his incest, pedofilia, excesses with alcohol, temper, etc.
If we're all horribly evil, then why try to live a life of love to yourself and others? Why be shocked at evil? god puts up with David, why the hell can't we? That is a full-to-the-brim crock of **** in my opinion.
Berg used to say "we're all sinners saved by grace". True. But in Greek the word sin simply means to 'miss the mark', right? So we're sinners and miss the mark. I'll accept that. But that's not the same as "we're all desperately filthy and wicked and of no worth." That kind of theology was the big sheet that allowed Berg lots of room to get away with all kinds of stuff and how could you judge cause (sob, sniff, sniff) there but for the grace of God go I.
And that kind of theology was what allowed leadership to control us. After all if "the heart is desperately wicked, who can know it?" then of course we can't trust our own hearts? We can only trust leadership. We couldn't trust our own hearts or minds. Our gut reactions were wrong. the warning bells going off in our head were from Satan and bla bla bla.
What a deception that all was. WHEW!
