I have two teenagers living 50 mi away from me and I only get to see them a couple of times a month. It's breaking my heart continuously. (I even still miss my oldest who is 28!) I can't imagine just walking away from any child like that, I don't care what you think you are doing that is so important.
When I hear stories like this, I go back to my original desire of wanting to have some sort of fund set up to help these kids out. Of course, it won't replace the real family they never got to have, but at least it would give them a leg up, a way to get set up and go to college, get a job, etc.
I really appreciate you sharing these things here. It's about time the older community got their act together and did something to help out. And I mean more than just praying for the members still in or even giving a selected few a place to stay. What you are doing speaks volumes. We need to hear more from the perspective of those born in the Family and what it did to them.
