And attitude makes a huge difference too

Especially in minimum-wage jobs where there's a high turnover, a lot of younger people hate to be there and their attitude shows. They're only there long enough to find a better job and move along. So they sluff off and figure, "I'm only getting paid pennies, so I'll damn well not give them more quality work than they're paying me for."

But bosses notice people who do a good job and put their heart into menial tasks. You may not stay at that low-paying high-turnover job place, but you just may get advanced to manager because of your personal attributes and sense of responsibility. Or at least you'll have excellent references for your resume'.

If I'd known years ago what I know now, it would've helped too.

By the way, some people in the world at large spend ALL their life in minimum-wage positions. It's not uncommon. So I think going back to school, a trade college, or apprenticing in a new career and getting a better paying position is wise.

And here again, the attitude of being a learner and putting your heart into the job makes all the difference. I know an SGA who spent all his Family life as a handyman. He ended up taking on a couple day's work in a metal shop and was such a conscientious worker and so willing to learn and improve himself, that he went from one position to another and within a year had a top position with a healthy salary. But he could've still been stuck in an entry-level postiion with minimum wages if he hadn't been a pusher and been commited to excellent work.
