I think that the biggest thing that helped me was learning how the holocaust victims would often experience their pain all over again, after 20 years of silence. You can't put a time line on it or say there's a sequetial process. I just had an exmember in my home who had been FFd into the F. She had had a good job and a happy home life, but she fell in love and was convinced to follow God with her new love. She still kicks herself to this day even after leaving more than 10 years ago. I saw the pain so strong in her face, so deep, it hurt me too. We can't help but look back and think of a lifetime wasted, lives ruined and opportunities thrown away. It would be different, I think, if it were something stupid we did all on our own, like taking drugs, or throwing away a college career to party. These are things that people make a conscious decision to do, knowing full well the consequences. We did not know we were doing something wrong until it was too late, the snare had been set. We still thought we were serving God and doing something good for the world. It was a deception that we fell into because we wanted to do something good. That is what hurts the most.
