Even if you live in the cheapest part of the country, which I believe my offspring basically do, you still have to eat, but eating at $20/day is out of sight and simply not necessary. We have learned to be quite resourceful and when my kids start eating out and spending money like that, bam, they get in a hole. I can't even afford to do that.

Haven't you heard the stories of poor, starving college students living off of Ramen noodles? That's my kids. It's quite the challenge, but they get through it. I often make them granola, not the store bought kind, but my kind, with lots of nutrients like brewers yeast, wheat germ, etc., etc. and they get a whole meal out of that. Sometimes I think they eat better than kids who have a table full of junk. They simply can't afford all that and have to really be creative. They've learned how to make Ramen noodles with eggs and stuff and make it quite delicious and with lots of protein. Of course, you should see them pig out at the weekly church pot luck. They manage. Right now some are paying $125/month plus utilities, phone, food, etc. Others are paying up to $300/month. But that's the tops.
