Yes, but it shows good profit and good business sense. Barney has claimed to be a businessman and never to have been attached to the emotional doctrinal sides in the F.
He simply sees that if there is a need out there, then there is an opportunity for business and if it is business then that is the way the American economy runs, right?
He gets food donated, he does fund raisings, he applies for government grants, he does everything a shrewd person can do to run a profitable business. In the meantime his retirement account grows steadily, so he is preparing for the future, some kids find some sort of basic help in getting started again after the Family, and he even manages to get Joseph to advance less than 400 $ for the yearly cost of the site, when for sure with all his operations he is not hurting for 30 $ a month.
Now, this is great business sense!! It is not exactly missionary work, it is what Adam Smith talked about in the laissez-faire and the invisible hand in the market.
