One thing we can all agree on. The people who hang around these boards are never boring. I'm a bulletin board junkie from way back, and these boards have held my interest a lot longer than most others I've been involved with.
For all my complaining about the harsh treatment I receive, I also get a lot of private emails on a regular basis. Sometimes they are from people who never post on the boards, but only read. They tell me all the time what a difference just reading the messages on the boards makes in their lives.
This type of communication is interactive, and available instantly all over the world. I haven't actually broken it down, but it wouldn't surprise me if the ratio of readers to posters is around 100/1. WC might be able to add some insight based on the logs here.
